How can Hypnotherapy help with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)?

What is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)?

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) or Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) is a long-term condition that is characterised by extreme fatigue that doesn't improve with rest. It isn't caused by an underlying medical condition, but sometimes is followed by a virus.

When you first get the diagnosis of CFS, it can be really hard to get your head around why your body doesn't work in the way it used to. This is especially hard if you used to be active before your diagnosis.

This can bring up emotions such as frustration, anger, why me etc which can also lead to stress. All these emotions are valid. However, sometimes stress can exacerbate your fatigue symptoms so it's a real balancing act.

How Hypnotherapy can help

Hypnotherapy cannot cure CFS but it can help reduce the symptoms by reducing your stress levels. If you suffer with pain alongside the fatigue, then Hypnotherapy is great at reframing the mind's perception of pain. Therapy can help you pace yourself so you can do all the things you would like to do but at a reduced level, so not to overstimulate and overexhaust yourself. Pacing is a great tool to help you learn to manage your symptoms. Hypnotherapy can also help with understanding and finding peace with CFS so it doesn't become your identity, just another part of you.

Just remember all behaviour has a positive purpose, even if you don’t see it yet. We understand that everyone is doing the best they can with the information they have at the time.
